'Indicateur' is tympan’s first release and reunites three musicians, Sara Lehad, Schloss Mirabell, Charles Wesley and one photographer, Joséphine Michel.
Sara Lehad is an Algerian born and France based sound experimentalist. Her current research aims to decolonize her practice of sound and implies a matrimonial inspiration of Amazigh Music.
Schloss Mirabell has in commun with Sara the philosophical, theoretical investigations. She studied the role of sound in robotic rehabilitation and has been working as a postdoctoral researcher on music, machines and the human hand.
Charles Wesley is a non-binary DJ, composer, photographer and explores emotional, confrontational sounds. He is also a music critic, writes about hybrid musical compositions and modes of listening.
Joséphine Michel is a photographer and translator who collaborates with Touch, an English label in the field of experimental and ambient music. Her photographs vibrate, explore timbre as they often engage processes that are common to the sonic, such as improvisation, texture and reverberation.
In charge of the design is Léa Auvray, a graphic designer and analog photographer based in Lyon.
"add an image to your sound" starts off tympan’s recordings with dawnesque electronics. Gently coloring the stereo image with emotionally tainted signals, its improvised quality gives it a tactile sensibility.
"Bat" is made out of only one vocal sample. Duplicated, processed, the vocal cry weaves a strange, diffuse trajectory. Its bright shimmering sounds draw an abstract yet acute mode of expression.
"001" is an enveloping, dark resonant space. Its whining momentum rises above a growling, patient soundscape.
Finally, "Black Ice" is a beautiful rattling electroacoustic piece filled with wonder, in which Mirabell’s cello draws a path for raw clouds to defrost. The rhythmic delicately moves us forward, and there’s something you didn’t know was there, at the back of the cupboard.
